Change is in the air, light is shifting and the evenings are growing cooler. It is time to turn over a new leaf, break out of complacency, sing your own great song. Are you living your life to its fullest potential? Are you following your bliss? Where do you sit in mediocrity? Now is a time for self-reflection and then action, making clear and wise decisions from that place inside that is unchanging in our changing world. In yoga this is called Purusha - the one who dwells in the castle of the body, the knower, the eternal "I am." In stillness you can hear the mantra of the breath that leads you to this divine source. The sound of the breath is Sohum, (hamsa in some traditions) - "so" on the inhale and "hum" on the exhale. It translates to "I Am That I Am," or "I Am That." I am love, I am peace, I am more than my physical body, my home, my career, the car I drive... I am the infinite, ripe with creative potential. This is the song that echo's from our hearts. Dare to answer its call.
"We have it in our power to begin the world over again", said Tom Paine. "Start by doing what's necessary; then, do what's possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible," said St. Francis of Assisi.
Command your greatest life into being. Don't settle! Your true power lies within your deepest presence, within the stillness of your heart. As you break free, as you crack open the outer shell of resistance, be tender with yourself. You may not have all the answers right away. That's a good thing. Living in the mystery allows us to venture into the ocean of possibility. Many of you have requested this other quote by Ranier Maria Rilke, sourced from Letters To A Young Poet.
"Have patience with everything unresolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves as if they were locked rooms or books written in a very foreign language. Don't search for the answers, which could not be given to you now, because you would not be able to live them. And the point is, to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps then, someday far in the future, you will gradually, without even noticing it, live your way into the answer."
As many of you already know, I have chosen to resign from teaching at At One Yoga due to recent changes in structure. I have very much enjoyed teaching classes there for the last five years. In order to live with integrity and follow my heart, it's time to make a change. Mahatma Gandhi said "Honest differences are often a healthy sign of progress." My only challenge is in saying goodbye to you, the students I have taught. I have enjoyed your spirits immensely. You have given so much of yourselves to the practice in order to grow and blossom. You have been my teacher, revealing to me the deeper essence behind the practice.
Sunday October 23 will be my last day. If our paths don't cross again, may your journey continue to flourish in the mastery of excellence. Strive for it, you are worth it. Sing your own great song and then listen for the whisper of the inner voice that sings, "I Am That."
Blessings of Infinite, Light,
Mary
