They Have Different Needs
St. John of the Cross (1542-1591)
Some seeds beneath the earth are dormant.
They fell the last time the cool air turned the leaves gold.
Those seeds have different needs than we do; let them go about their life completely unharmed by your views.
We have cracked open, we sensed even beneath the earth ---- the holy was near,
And are reaching up to know
And claim
Light
As our
Self.
Happy Holidays,
The skies are clear blue and the air is frosty crisp. Winter Solstice draws near, the gap between seasons, the pause between breaths where all possibility lies. Within the darkness the promise of light is revealed. Within the stillness lies the shining presence of the Divine.
Many traditions celebrate the rebirth of light in this season. Rev. Michele Whittington of Creative Living Fellowship calls this time The Holy Days. Whatever you choose to honor and celebrate, whether it is Christmas, Hanukkah, Ramadan, Bodhi Day, Kwanzaa, or St. Lucia's Day (Sweden's festival of lights) let us recognize that it is about the holiness of it.
The word Holy, from ancient Hebrew, translates that through experiencing existence ones consciousness eventually connects to a state of perfect bliss. In other words, through experiencing yourself in this life, this moment, you connect to the Source of Light, the Spirit of Love.
Though there are different paths, we can first honor the beauty of diversity, and then recognize the similarities and celebrate that all paths lead to the same Source of Love and Light - that which you are seeking is already within you. You are Peace, You are Light, You are Love. These are the blessings I claim for us this Holy season, to recognize the gifts that are already within us. Take time to be still, to nurture yourself, to pause in the gap, for there you will find your true radiant self and the gift of love revealed.
May you be a light to yourself and a light to the world!
Love,
Mary
