Begin with Balance

"For the experience of the great energy, the great Self, you must turn your gaze inward. That which you are looking for is beckoning to you from within." Swami Chidvilasananda

The Winter Solstice and New Year are times for turning within, times for reflection. John Friend, the founder of Anusara Yoga and one of my teachers says the two highest purposes of yoga are turning within (self knowing), and turning out (expression of that knowing). It is the unfolding of your own spirit, an inner honoring. Know it and express it by using the practice of yoga as a vehicle to connect you to your innermost self.

Christopher Bamford says, " We are rhythmic beings, from our breathing and heartbeat to the more hidden circulation of energies through our bodies. Rhythm seems to define life itself."

In this fast paced world of growing technology and business it's easy to get out of sync, out of balance with our natural rhythms. This causes emotional and physical dis-ease and stress. A consistent and dedicated Yoga practice is a way to reconnect to your Self, to help you access the limitless potential and the incredible healing capacity of the body, mind and heart.

What is a consistent practice?

1. Practice at least 2-3 times a week to see results on all levels.
2. Balance movement with periods of stillness and rest.
3. Add Restorative Yoga to your practice one to four times per month. This is a must in this day and age for reestablishing healthy rhythms, and nourishing the nervous system.

"Take time out to nurture your Self first and then everyone around you benefits."

Martin Luther King Day is observed on Mon. the 17th, so I leave you with these words of his to ponder:

"One of the most agonizing problems within our human experience is that few, if any, of us live to see our fondest hopes fulfilled. The hopes of our childhood and the promises of our mature years are unfinished symphonies."

Now is the time to turn within, water those long ago planted seeds with your breath and become a co-creator with the Infinite to manifest your hearts desire. Let your Symphony be heard!

Namaste'
