Hi All,
Years ago my first naturopath asked me what at the time I thought was an odd question. She asked me where I saw God. I didn't know what that had to do with my health, but I answered her that I see God in nature. When I'm outdoors, hiking and reveling in the landscape of the Divine I feel at one with myself. It is springtime here in the Arizona desert where the wildflowers are displaying their gratitude and delight for the winter rains. The intoxicating scent of orange blossoms lingers in the air and its time to open the windows and doors of our homes and souls.
My soul has an affinity for the ocean. I recently returned from leading a retreat in Tronconnes, Mexico where all had an amazing time! Between twice daily yoga classes we rode horses on the beach, kayaked in a magical lagoon leading to the ocean where birds walk on the water and fish jump out of it. A few of us brave souls even tried our handat surfing.
An amazing phenomenon occurs in the ocean at certain times of the year. The plankton blooms and becomes iridescent, lighting the evening waves from within. As they come to crash on shore they leave a trail of shining luminescence. As I was walking along the darkened beach wherever I placed my feet it sparkled and lit up as if the stars had fallen from the sky and were lighting the path and guiding me. I no longer needed my flashlight for the light was literally under my feet! I danced under the moonlit starry, starry night on the twinkling sand and delighted in nature's play, realizing that health is well-being, mind, body and whatever brings a song, a smile to my heart.
So, I feed myself spiritually by connecting to source energy in the great outdoors, taking in the blush of a spectacular sunset, hiking in the desert, and most recently reveling in the recent display of cherry blossoms in Washington, D.C. I was fortunate enough to be there at peak season for a stunning array of cascading beauty that framed the Potomac River.
And if that's not enough of a reminder that spring is here, the other day I was out collecting eggs from the neighborhood hens that they lay in the Oleanders that fence my backyard and in one of the nests I found Katy, the stray cat I've been feeding. She birthed her four kittens in the nest and underneath them are a handful of eggs. Perhaps her warmth will hatch them given time.
Given time everything ripens and matures, the landscape of our terrain as well as the interior of our hearts. I am ever grateful for this path that allows me to continuously unfold and remember myself as Divine. As I observe nature I observe the universe within and to me that is well-being!
Hope you are having a wonderful spring. From my heart to yours, love,
Mary
