I see skies of blue, and clouds of white. The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night.
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world. ~ Louis Armstrong
Dearest Friends,
This is my favorite time of the year. In Arizona it is finally cooler; the sun streams bright, the air is crisp and sunset hikes are like church to me. I remember my Nature by being in nature.
The holidays that are rapidly approaching are a reminder to revere the holy, to honor the divine capacity we are endowed with and to graciously share our presence with one another. My grand teacher Pandit Rajmani tells us that we are individual islands of excellence within the ocean of all that is.
I love this. It resonates within me on a soul level and sometimes it is a challenge to remember during difficult times. For many the holidays are a struggle. Yet our practices teach us that if we get quiet and rest in our true Nature these life circumstances are the very environments for our awakening souls to begin to see through the darkness, to birth with hope and possibility a new vision, a new point of brilliance. Then with awareness and after a period of acceptance we can align with our deepest truth and act on what it naturally emerging. This is the Gayatri Mantra in action, to bow to the wisdom of the heart and to aim our arrows of light at the right time.
In order to see in the dark, to become a night-light, we must become empty. Empty, empty, empty… of old ways of thinking, being and doing, especially doing. The emptier we are the more receptive we are. The more receptive we are the more we can be in the freely flowing perpetual state of the soul’s affluence and catch the wisdom teachings that are always available to us. How much we receive is directly linked to appreciation. Therefore, this holiday season I have a formula to share with you in order to amplify this inherent capacity. The key is gratitude. Gratitude is heart felt thanks giving. Gratitude is a magnetic magnifier of everything that flows. This formula specifically combines gratitude with love, the foundation of creation.
Here it is… G2L. A gratitude sandwich, two elements gratitude and one element love. Gratitude is the balancing component that grows more of what you wish to manifest. Here’s how it works. Look at yourself in the mirror and notice what is good and beautiful. Notice what a glorious day it is. This is appreciation. When you say Thank You something expands in your heart and right there is Love. As soon as we feel that, there is more gratitude. This flow is coming to us constantly, from a space showing up in a crowded parking lot to the biggest, deepest experiences in our lives.
Next time you feel stuck remember that it is your soul thirsting for it’s own lavish splendor. Turn on the nightlight and remember that out of chaos comes order and only in the dark do the stars shine. Appreciate your own Light, it’s uniquely yours and your only obligation is to share it. Then take a big bite of the gratitude sandwich, love one another and remember it’s a wonderful world. I wish for you a very Happy Thanksgiving!
