“The breezes at dawn have secrets to tell you. Don’t go back to sleep. You must ask for what you really want. Don’t go back to sleep. People are going back and forth across the doorsill where the two worlds touch. The door is round and open. Don’t go back to sleep.” -Rumi
Happy Spring Everyone!
Every season has it’s own magic. Yes, even winter with its pristine hush of freshly fallen snow, much to the chagrin of my Minneapolis friends last week with a belated April Fools of 17 inches. I myself journeyed to the Twin City tundra in March where the high was forecast at -5 below. Brrrrrr!!! An adventure for sure for this replanted desert girl. My roots began in Wisconsin so I can’t feign naïveté.
By now Spring is in full force in most places. I love seeing the Cherry Blossom posts on Facebook and Instagram. Here in the Arizona desert the Palo Verde trees canopy the streets, their laden tendrils dust the sidewalks with a glittering of gold, nature’s magic for all to see. The cacti are in rare bloom and wildflowers sprinkle the hills. And how about la Luna Rosa, the gorgeous fully eclipsed moon this month… Beyond Words…She literally left me temporarily sleepless. I obeyed the impulse to write and capture the essence of her creative juices. I led with one of my favorite poems by Rumi, Don’t go back to sleep. My Teacher Yogarupa Rod Stryker says kundalini is not asleep; you are! Kundalini is the magic, the power the creative force that dwells within you, like the spring waiting to burst forth from the slumbering hibernation of winter and like the cucumber in the Maha Mritunjaya Mantra, longing to be plucked from the vine while ripe, not being left to rot. The eternal spring lives within you, your unique song aching to burst forth. Now is the time to harness this power and plant the seeds you wish to manifest. It is also time to not replant the ones that limit you. The message is loud and clear. The door is round and open, don’t go back to sleep. She (kundalini) is patiently, lovingly waiting for you to wake up to your own potential. The time is now.
I recently taught at Yoga Rocks the Park, a celebration of Yoga,Music and Community in Parks all across the U.S. I was privileged to guide over 475 yogis in chanting the Surya Gayatri. We moved with our breath, rested deeply in savasana while the sweet vibrations of the gong soothed our souls, and sat in meditation while remembering the indwelling light that lights the whole world and radiates truth, boundless will action and knowledge. Now that’s some potent magic! Abracadabra! I create what I speak.
On another front I am honored once again to be featured in Origin Magazine. You can still get your copy of the magazine available on stands at Whole Foods, Sprouts or Barnes and Nobles until the end of April. I am grateful to Maranda Pleasant for her visionary, artistic approach in sharing her joy through her unique publications. The feature is “You’re too…” Here is my quote from it:
“Being told I was "too" sensitive used to make me feel insecure and think something was wrong with me. I found ways to numb my feelings that were destructive. Finding yoga brought me home to myself. I now know that sensitivity is one of my greatest core gifts. My power lies in my ability to connect deeply to Source and subtly weave my curiosity into the tapestry of my everyday offerings. Now, instead of shrinking I welcome and boldly trust my intuition to guide me in becoming the spark of the Divine I am meant to be.”
Your magic, your core gift can be found in your deepest wounds. The Japanese believe an object that’s been broken is even more beautiful and they fill the cracks with gold. Leonard Cohen’s anthem lyrics portray this beautifully. “Ring the bells that still can ring. Forget your perfect offering. There’s a crack in everything. That’s how the light gets in.”
A little practical magic for you… Do your own practice to wake up to that intelligence that flows through you as you. Meditate to remember your own light, and as Oprah said to a tearful Pharell Williams about his “Get Happy” viral success, “It’s being used for something that’s greater than yourself” So I say to you… choose your stage, do your dance and stake your claim. Ask for what you really want then let it flow!
Flowing with Love from my heart to yours,
Mary
